Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell

A Japanese DIY ripoff of Evil Dead that’s largely content to just re-do gags from Raimi’s trilogy but on an even smaller budger, but then occasionally goes total nutso mode and escalates beyond what you see even there.

A weight-lifter, his ex-girlfriend and a psychic make their way into a possessed house. Our lead has to battle them with the only superpower he has…his muscles!

With a title like this and a runtime that barely makes it past 60 minutes, you absolutely can’t lose.

Body Parts

I love when a genre movie starts with just a sincerely compelling premise, but then gets goofier and more lurid as it goes on.

Jeff Fahey is a criminal psychologist who loses his arm in a car crash, but gets a donated arm from an executed criminal in a new procedure. When he starts getting strange flashes and violent urges he tracks down the other two recipients of the killer’s body parts. They don’t want anything to do with his conspiracy theories, but soon they start turning up dead.

A crazy car chase, severed limbs galore, and a shotgun-toting finale amp up the sleeze and action by the final third!

Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College

This movie got a shoutout at this year’s Emmys, and it’s well-deserved because where else are you going to see a bunch of puppet monsters horny for human women, a war for a prank crown (but where pranks are called yanks for some reason), Matthew Lillard, Kevin McCarthy turning into a man-sized Ghoulie, and a sincere love for the ‘80s indie comic boom?

Picture a movie called Ghoulies Go to College in your mind’s eye, and you’ve probably hit this one on the head.
